University of Exeter welcomes faculty from National Taiwan University

A delegation of six professors from National Taiwan University (NTU) visited the University of Exeter last week to share their expertise with academics in the School of Biosciences

The group, headed by Professor Grace Chu-Fang Lo, Dean of the College of Life Sciences at NTU, gave a series of seminars providing an insight into some of the cutting-edge research being undertaken at NTU.

During the three day visit, the School also demonstrated its own research and facilities to the guests.

Commenting on her visit, Professor Grace Chu-Fang Lo said ‘All of our delegates found staff at the University of Exeter very welcoming and enthusiastic, and we were impressed by Exeter’s ambition, focus on internationalisation and excellence in scientific research. Our two universities clearly have a lot of common interests in life science studies, especially in systems biology, evolution and conservation biology, cognitive science and animal behaviour, toxicology and stress/disease responses.

The close relationship between the University of Exeter and National Taiwan University will benefit both institutions. We look forward to developing a regular programme of collaborative research, especially in the field of Biosciences, leading to the exchange of students between our two institutions.'

Professor Murray Grant from the University of Exeter added ‘Forging first class international links and partnerships is one of the University’s key priorities, bringing benefits to both students and staff alike. The School of Biosciences is delighted to be playing its part by working with a world-class university like NTU.'

NTU is regarded as Taiwan's top university, and is ranked 95th in the world according to the THE/QS World Rankings of 2009. The visit follows a highly successful visit to NTU in November last year by a delegation from the University of Exeter, led by Vice Chancellor and chief executive Professor Steve Smith.
