Overview

I use molecular methods to explore microbial diversity in a wide range of environments. Previous projects have included profiling microbial communities on exposed Arctic granite bedrock and in metal-contaminated coal mine drainage treatment systems.

I am currently working with Prof. Charles Tyler on a large multidisciplinary project supported by the Newton Fund Global Research Partnership in Aquaculture, with partners in Bangladesh, India and Malawi. The overarching goal is to develop novel molecular approaches for predicting and mitigating disease outbreaks in small scale aquaculture farming. My role is to characterise the microbiomes of aquaculture ponds (shrimp and finfish, including tilapia and pangasius) using high-throughput sequencing approaches.
