 Office hours:

Since I spend several months of the year in the field, please sent me a mail to be sure that I am around.

Monique Léchenne is trained in veterinary medicine (vet. med) at the Vetsuisse faculty in Bern and holds a PhD in epidemiology obtained in 2015 at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), University of Basel. Her thesis was conducted in N’Djamena (Chad) and spanned over many aspects of rabies control including surveillance, dog mass vaccination, transmission dynamics and public awareness. After her PhD she continued as a postdoc at Swiss TPH coordinating a large scale study to estimate rabies burden and vaccine demand in West and Central Africa funded under the GAVI Vaccine Investment learning Agenda. In 2018 she started a postdoc at the Environment and Sustainability Institute, University of Exeter to study the ecology of domestic dogs in Chad and investigate the occurrence of Guinea Worm infections in this specie. She is also a member of the coordination team of the Thematic Training program on rabies in the Afrique One ASPIRE research consortium.

Qualifications

State veterinary diploma, Switzerland

PhD in epidemiology

Expert on rabies and zoonotic disease control

Member of the teaching and training team of the Afrique One ASPIRE consortium

Career

Monique pursues an academic career in research on zoonotic diseases in small domestic animals in general and in dogs in particular. Her special interests lie in the social determinants of zoonotic disease control and improving access to veterinary care in a resource limited context. She has good links to several West and Central African research institutions and to the worldwide rabies expert network.
