Dr Nicholas Harmer
Senior Lecturer in Structural Biochemistry

Profile

Broad research specialisms: I am a biochemist and protein scientist, and my main interest is in understanding the biology of pathogens. My research focuses on understanding how proteins contribute to the virulence of pathogens at a molecular level, and how this enables the pathogen to infect its host. To do this, my group uses a wide variety of tools including structural studies, enzymology, protein-ligand interaction studies, microbiology and cell imaging; I also have a keen interest in applying Synthetic Biology and Systems Biology to microbial disease.

I am a member of the Cellular & Chemical Biology research group.
