Having been a professional ecologist since 2005, working in the public, private and charity sectors in Cornwall and Wales, I am currently greatly enjoying a return to academia. Working with the excellent Bee Research Group at the ESI, my project seeks to explore the motivations and practices of beekeepers in Southwest England. It is hoped this in-depth exploration with the local beekeeping community into why they keep bees in the ways they do will collaboratively guide future research and action for pollinators.
My broad interests lie in ecosystem services; understanding and utilising our environment sustainably for the benefit of nature and human health. My professional experience is mainly in ecological consultancy; surveying and valuing ecological resources at development sites and recommending mitigation to maintain species and habitats in favourable condition. I particularly enjoy designing practical mitigation measures to optimise benefit for people and nature.
My academic background is in Biological Sciences and Ethnobotany (the study of how people use plants). I seek to ensure my research is highly practical, driven by need in the community, and can inform ecological practice and policy.
