I am a senior lecturer in the Education and Scholarship job family on the Exeter campus and am heavily involved in all aspects of teaching, both in Biosciences and in my role as Director of Studies for the Natural Sciences programme.
I am involved in a number of projects to develop e-learning in Biosciences and to strengthen student involvement in the development of teaching and learning.
I also coordinate the school‘s widening participation and schools liaison activities, working with organizations such as the Royal Society, the BA, the Sutton Trust and the National HE-STEM programme to promote science in schools. View the Biosciences For Schools and Colleges website

My research interests are focused on learning and teaching in the sciences and also around outreach and widening participation.
I am particularly interested in the transition from school to university and am currently working with a number of local schools on projects funded by both the Royal Society and the Society for General Microbiology, both engaging local students in biological research and also developing our understanding of how engagement with research can influence students higher education choices and widen access to HE.
I won a Departmental Teaching Enhancement Grant from the HEA UK Centre for Biosciences for the development of e-learning resources and am currently working with undergraduate students on the development of new E-Learning resources for both our undergraduate teaching and use in schools supporting the key stage 4 and 5 syllabuses.
I was involved in the JISC funded project ‘Unlocking the Hidden Curriculm’, developing augmented reality technologies to utilize the distinctive University of Exeter campus to teach about Biodiversity. Visit the project website.
I also work closely with Students as Agents for Change helping Natural Science and Bioscience students become more involved in the way in which they are taught at the University.
