Poster prize winner Dorothea Roehrich receives her prize from Dr Steve Bates

South West and South Wales Microbiology Forum success

Microbiologists Steve Bates, Alan Brown, Steve Michell and Rick Titball from the School of Biosciences hosted this year’s South West and South Wales Microbiology Forum on the 24 September 2009 at the University of Exeter.

Attended by over 160 delegates and with key presentations by School of Biosciences staff, the meeting was considered to be a great success.

The Forum brings together microbiologists working in academic, government, hospital and industry laboratories to encourage a greater awareness of the microbiology in the region and to provide an opportunity for networking. The Society for General Microbiology provided three prizes to young scientists for the best posters presented at the meeting – one prize went to School of Biosciences PhD student Steve Milne.

The meeting was generously supported by a number of organisations and plans are already in place for the 2010 meeting.

Date: 22 September 2009
