Dr Anurup Mukhopadhyay
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Biosciences
Anurup completed his Master's degree in Pharmacy with a specialization in Pharmacology at the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), India. He then pursued a Master of Science by Research (MS) in Medical Science and Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-Kharagpur). In 2018, he joined the research group of Prof. Rabibrata Mukherjee and Prof. Jyotirmoy Chatterjee at IIT-Kharagpur to undertake his PhD. During his doctoral studies, Anurup developed synthetic biomimetic scaffolds that enhance extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition, guide cell behavior, and enable targeted drug release to promote scarless healing in diabetic wounds. His innovative approach has the potential to advance tissue engineering and address the global challenge of non-healing diabetic wounds.
In August 2024, Anurup joined the Morphomechanics Group at the Living Systems Institute in Exeter, UK, for post-doctoral research. Building on his expertise in material science and the biomechanics of polymer networks, he aims to explore how the composition and structural organization of the basement membrane influence its material properties. Additionally, he seeks to uncover which structural characteristics of the basement membrane contribute to the accumulation of elastic stress and deformation in growing tissues.
