Alison teaches Chemistry and Biochemistry to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and her research into pedagogical innovations is influencing and changing practice nationally, and internationally. Her recent work on gamification has been widely praised and shared, as has her research on the use of unique datasets in assessments.
Alison has made significant contributions to university governance, serving as a University Senator from 2014 to 2018 and leading initiatives on flexible working and career breaks as a member of the Athena Swan Committee since 2014. She is also Programme Lead for the MSc/MRes Advanced Biological Sciences programme. Alison acts as an ASPIRE mentor and the Senior Tutor for Masters students, a position she has held since 2011, demonstrating her commitment to academic mentorship.
Alison started pedagogical research in 2017 and was appointment as a Fellow of the Exeter Education Incubator (EEI). Currently, she serves as a Discovery Fellow (2022 to 2024).
Throughout her distinguished career, Alison has remained steadfast in her commitment to educational excellence and the cultivation of numerical and data processing skills, a commitment that resonates deeply within her academic pursuits and underscores her ongoing contributions to the field.
