About me:
Dr Elizabeth Ballou, PhD, is a fungal cell biologist and geneticist specializing in fungal morphology, and focused on Cryptococcus neoformans and the black mold Mucorales fungal pathogens. She has pioneered in-vitro and single-cell approaches to study key fungal morphogenic transitions underpinning fungal pathogenesis. Her lab additionally specializes in bioimaging approaches to study the changeable ways that fungal pathogens respond to their environments, and how we can use this information to improve health outcomes. Dr Ballou was awarded a BBSRC Anniversary Future Leaders Fellows in 2015. In 2018 she was awarded a Wellcome Trust Henry Dale Fellowship and the Beit Prize. In 2021 She was awarded a Lister Prize. She is currently funded by the BBSRC, the MRC, the Wellcome Trust, and the Lister Institute.
