About me:
My key career achievements to date have all centered on research on C. albicans. I have experience working with in vitro cell-based systems, in vivo rodent models as well as primary vaginal tissue samples from patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis.
Interests:
During these years, I have enriched my understanding of C. albicans and I was able to identify the similarities and differences between vulvovaginal candidiasis in patients and in mouse models. In particular, I am most interested in trying to clarify the profound but ambiguous role of the hyphal form in patients as well as in asymptomatic infections given that these are not always associated with inflammation. I am extremely interested to understand how the pathogenesis of vulvovaginal candidiasis is influenced by the particular C. albicans strain and how much by the patient herself. At University of Exeter I will study the influence of zinc on C. albicans inflammation.
