Matthew Witt is an Associate Professor at the University of Exeter; he is a marine scientist and conservation biologist.
My research focuses on animal habitat-use and human-wildlife overlap. Much of my current work investigates the response of the marine environment to renewable energy extraction (wind and wave technology). My research group uses a variety of technologies to help in our work, including satellite tracking and remote deployable video and acoustic systems. Our research is deeply centred upon spatial ecology and data visualisation to improve our capacity to manage human activities at sea. We work on a range of highly migratory marine species including pelagic fish, turtles and sharks.
Interests:
- Ecological effects of marine renewable energies
- Distribution and behaviour of marine vertebrates
- Human-wildlife space conflict and habitat use
- Remote data collection technologies
