Interests:
Superficial fungal infections affect a large proportion of the population worldwide but, more seriously, fungi also kill over a million people every year.
To recognise invading fungal pathogens and mount a protective immune response, our immune cells are equipped with sensors called pattern recognition receptors.
My research utilizes a set of soluble pattern recognition receptors, which recognize conserved fungal components, to understand how the fungal cell wall is made.
This research will aid in the understanding of how fungi are recognized by the immune system, and how we might kill fungi by blocking its cell wall assembly.
