Lecturer
Biosciences

About me:

I am a Lecturer in Aquatic Molecular Ecology in the Bioscience department. I have extensive experience of teaching a wide range of topics across different levels, and I am an Associate Fellow of the HEA. I have worked in the civil service for the UK government's International Negotiations team and in Natural England's policy advice department, and have published research articles in the field of environmental genetics and ecotoxicology.

I have developed a career that focuses on science communication and ensuring scientific evidence creates impact whether in policy, education or communities both nationally and internationally. I have worked as a policy advisor and strategist for government and its technical agencies, as well as representing the UK at United Nations negotiations on pollution. Without sharing science and engaging with stakeholders, policymakers and the public we cannot tackle environmental issues together.

I am a trained mental health first aider and advocate for others, including in the Bioscience department's Diversity, Inclusion, Culture and Equality (DICE) committee, where I always aim to foster an inclusive and collaborative community, promoting social events as chair of the socials committee and providing resources for those who need support.

Broad research specialisms:

Ecology, Ecotoxicology, Evolution and Science Communication

Interests:

I am a member of the Molecular Ecology & Evolution Group (MEEG).
