Overview
I'm a evolutionary biologist researching the evolution of transposable elements in a wide variety of eukaryotes. My research takes a bioinformatic approach to understand how the wide variety of DNA transposons present in eukaryotes have evolved from a common origin, and how to classify these genetic elements using a phylogenomic approach instead of the standard sequence similarity approach. This research involves both exploratory research utilising existing genome assemblies and the development of bioinformatic pipelines to facilitate this.
