Overview
I am the Assistant Laboratory Manager for the 2nd floor of the Geoffrey Pope Building. My role within the University is mainly to provide technical support for the Principal Investigators and their research teams with their projects. Other work I do is aimed at sustainability within the laboratories.
I graduated in Biological Sciences (BSc HONS) [1st Class] at the University of the West of England, Bristol, in 2020.
I moved to Exeter to work for the Environment Agency as part of the Coronavirus Wastewater Environmental Monitoring Project. I worked in sample lysis, progressing onto RNA extraction and RT-qPCR procedures helping to identify and quantify concentrations of coronavirus nationally, providing data from which informed the Government’s response to the pandemic. During that time I was promoted to a senior assistant scientist, undertaking more supervisory responsibilities within the lab.
My degree allowed me to have a broad background and I haven’t particularly specialised as of yet, which is why this role in such a dynamic and infinitely varied labspace fascinates me. My previous work experience in molecular biology is coupled with my research interests in emergent behaviour and complex adaptive phenomena.
