Overview

In my current role as Technical Services Manager, I oversee the running of research labs within the Living Systems Institute, working with my team of lab managers and technicians to ensure research groups are effectively supported. I liaise with Estates and internal and external contractors to ensure building infrastructure projects and maintenance does not adversly affect research. I also oversee the relocation of research groups within LSI and lab refurbishment projects. 

I'm passionate about developing my team, and having their skill sand experience recognised through professional registration. I am currently a registrant champion volunteer with the Science Council.

I am also the Health and Safety coordinator for LSI labs, where I strive to maintain a safe working environment and ensure research adheres to University safety standards and external regulations. As Biological Safety Officer for Streatham campus, I am able to give advice on GM risk assessments and I am responsible for auditing GM facilities. 

I previously worked as a Biochemist with Unilever for over 15 years, where I interrogated molecular pathways in human skin to develop disruptive technologies for addressing ageing and skin / scalp conditions. I have extensive experience of human cell and tissue culture, managing samples to ensure compliance with Human Tissue Authority regulations. I was the Health and Safety advisor for a busy Bioscience building, and took the lead in biosafety for the site. I worked with the leadership team to develop a pro-active approach to accident reduction.
