I am a Research Fellow in Biosciences exploring spatial and temporal trends in air pollution.
Using sediment records from urban ponds, I am reconstructing a cross-regional history of particulate pollution deposition in Merseyside. These unique sedimentary archives set amongst the industrial landscape have captured trends in the release of environmental contaminants, spanning times of pre-industrial intensification to present day. The toxicity of these particulates and contemporary urban dust is being explored using novel techniques. Working in a cross-disciplinary team, collaborating with the Geography department and health professionals in the northwest, we are developing novel ways to assess potential links between the environment and health.
