Dr Dan Bloomfield
SWEEP Impact Evaluation Manager
Dan’s post is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
He is working with our academics in Biosciences and the Medical School to develop the take-up of green prescriptions. A green prescription is given to patients with chronic conditions when some regular outdoor engagement with nature is thought by a doctor to be of benefit to health and wellbeing.
The work involves partners in the health and charitable sector to increase the impact that our natural science research makes.
Dan’s previous role was with the Met Office, developing joint research strategies to tackle the impact of climate change on human health.
Before joining the University in 2010, Dan ran a Europe-wide charity that provided networking opportunities for National Parks and other protected areas.
He has backgrounds in:
- Environmental projects and policy (for Natural England and the Greater London Authority),
- public engagement and facilitation (for BMRB and other companies), and,
- economic development consultancy (for Roger Tym and Partners and Government Office South West).
He has a PhD in linguistics and urban policy from University College London, a degree in ecology, a Masters degree in environmental policy, and second Masters in psychotherapy.
Dan is also a psychotherapist, and has a particular interest in mental wellbeing and the natural environment.
Dan works on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
