Research

Research interests

I am currently working at Ken Haynes lab on Zymoseptoria tritici which is a devastating wheat fungal pathogen. The aim of my project is to construct the fully sequence verified Z. tritici ORFeome library using high-throughput Gateway cloning technology. In this project so far, I have cloned 3,775 Illumina sequence verified ORF’s into E. coli Gateway® entry vector pDONR 207. On completion of this project, collections made will be released to the research community to understand the pathogenicity of this destructive wheat pathogen. I am also performing large scale screening of our Z. tritici over-expression libraries in the heterologous system Saccharomyces cerevisiae.  

I am (along with Dr Graham Thomas) also trying to identify the genes involved in Z. tritici spore germination and establishment of disease. We aim to achieve this using RNA-seq approach.

In addition to my research responsibilities at Haynes lab, I also take care of many of the management and administration tasks required to run a successful lab.
