Overview

In 2018 I was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship from Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy) the most prestigious individual teaching award in the UK. This was in recognition of my impact on student outcomes and higher education nationally and internationally.

As Lead Academic Tutor and Senior Lecturer on the Penryn Campus I have a strong focus on staff tutoring, peer tutoring and the undergraduate experience as a whole.

I am responsible for the tutoring provision of nearly 900 students in the College of Life and Environmental Sciences; provison delivered by nearly 60 academic staff across Biosciences and Geography. In addtion to this I coordinate an undergraduate peer support tutorial system that supplements staff tutoring in the department.

I am also involved in staff training. I am an Academic Advisor, ASPIRE mentor and member of the ASPIRE management group. I was Director of the Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Course in Cornwall between 2010-2014 and currently contribute to the Universities Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice programme (PCAP).

I teach first and second year undergraduate modules and have overall responsibility for the student experience both in the department and across the College. I help to coordinate student engagement including Students as Change Agents Projects.

I was also a board member of the Peer Led Team Learning International Society (PLTLIS) based in the USA pltlis.org/ which aims to promote peer learning both in the USA and internationally between 2013-2016.
