Overview
I am a diagnostic radiographer and bioinformatician currently working with Professor Karen Knapp as a postdoctoral researcher in medical imaging.I am interested in how data science and bioinformatics can be utilised within the area of medical imaging to improve diagnostics and enable the development of more personalised medicine.
Qualifications
2018: PhD Biological sciences (Thesis title: Bioinformatic analysis of biotechnologically important microbial communities)
2013: MSc Bioinformatics (Distinction with Dean's commendation)
2012: BSc Diagnostic Radiography (Medical Imaging)
Career
After graduating with a BSc in Medical Imaging and an MSc in Bioinformatics I undertook a PhD investigating bioinformatic methods for the analysis of microbial communities. Following on from this I worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in bioinformatics at Exeter university within the Exeter Microbial Biofuels Group (EMBG). Most recently I worked as a senior data scientist for Senisca, a biotech spin-out from the university, where I developed bioinformatic pipelines for the analysis of long read transcriptomic data sets and investigated the genetics of cellular ageing.
