Overview

Francisca is a PhD candidate of the QUEX scheme - a joint initiative of The University of Queensland and the University of Exeter. Since the start of her academic life, Ecotoxicology was always her main field of interest among the environmental sciences. She has focused on the study of the effects of stressors across all levels of biological organisation, from the molecular to whole communities and ecosystems. 

Her PhD project investigates the risks of the dietary exposure to microplastics through seafood consumption, by developing more efficent and reliable techniques to assess plastic concentration in edible portions of seafood. 

Qualifications

Francisca completed her Bachelor in Aquatic Sciences in 2014 at the University of Porto, followed by a Master’s degree in Marine Biology in 2016 at the University of Algarve in Portugal
